Captain Gregory L. Smith was born in 1955 in Pocahontas, Arkansas, and is a second generation River Pilot.  His career began in 1973 at seventeen years old on the Missouri River.  He became a licensed Pilot in 1976 and has trained numerous Steersmen and Posting Pilots since 1977.  Captain Smith holds five U.S. Patents on marine hardware.  He has experience navigating the MIssouri, Upper Mississippi, Lower Mississippi, Ohio, Tennessee, Lower Arkansas, Lower White, Lower Cumberland, and Illinois rivers. Currently, he is happily married and has four grown children and nine grandchildren.
